“Who are mystery shoppers?” One answer comes from Beverly Gleason and her daughters Tiffany Gleason and Trish Amburn. In 1994, they founded the company known as Mystery Shoppers.
 

How Mystery Shoppers Work 

Shoppers are independent contractors who are hired by companies such as Mystery Shoppers to determine the quality of customer service of a given client and file a report.
Mystery shops tend to have different objectives, depending upon the goals of different companies. For example, one mystery shop may be used to determine how well cashiers handle cash, while another might measure how knowledgeable a sales clerk is about the products he or she sells.
